Providers
Set up a compatible Codex runtime and understand QuotaMew's provider support limits.
QuotaMew reads quota metadata from supported local sources. It does not install a coding tool, sign you in, or change your account's limits.
| Provider | Current Stable status | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Codex | Supported | Quota windows and reset times from a compatible local Codex runtime |
| Claude Code | Experimental / Unverified | Limited snapshot reader; bridge setup and live subscribed-account validation are not complete |
Codex prerequisites
- Install a compatible Codex runtime on your Mac. QuotaMew can discover supported runtimes packaged with ChatGPT Desktop, legacy Codex Desktop, or a standalone Codex CLI.
- Complete sign-in through Codex itself, using an account/runtime combination that reports account quota windows. QuotaMew does not ask for your OpenAI password or a separate API key.
- Enable Codex in Settings → Providers, then use Refresh Now from QuotaMew's right-click menu.
For packaged runtimes, QuotaMew checks standard Applications locations and macOS application discovery. For the standalone CLI, it checks common installation locations and the environment available to QuotaMew. A command that works only through a terminal alias or shell startup script may not be discoverable by an app launched from Finder.
QuotaMew launches the local runtime it finds; you do not need to keep the provider's desktop window open just to read quota. Installing a desktop app is sufficient only if it contains a compatible Codex runtime. A browser-only ChatGPT session does not provide a local executable.
Compatibility is specific to the runtime
Stable includes packaged-runtime compatibility, but it does not guarantee every past or future ChatGPT / Codex Desktop or CLI version. Account quota may be unavailable for an unsupported authentication mode, runtime response, or account. API billing balances are not subscription quota windows.
How Codex quota is read
QuotaMew asks the local Codex app-server for account rate-limit information, then displays the reported quota and reset times. Codex owns authentication and its communication with OpenAI.
Available windows can include 5-hour, Weekly, and Luna Reserve. Missing windows stay unavailable; QuotaMew does not estimate limits or infer Reserve eligibility. Menu Bar and Settings explains presentation choices.
If the runtime cannot be found, the provider reports an unavailable/not-installed state rather than a fabricated percentage. Check installation and Settings → General → Diagnostics, then follow No Codex quota is shown.
OpenAI documents the Codex app-server and authentication options. These describe Codex interfaces; QuotaMew's compatibility remains limited to the behavior supported by the current Stable implementation.
Claude Code: Experimental / Unverified
Claude is not equivalent to Codex support. Stable contains a reader for a small, versioned local snapshot made for QuotaMew. Installing or signing in to Claude Code alone does not create that snapshot.
The opt-in status-line bridge, its installation flow, and live subscribed-account validation are not implemented in Stable. Enabling Claude in Settings does not install or configure a bridge. A not-configured/unavailable card is therefore expected when no compatible snapshot exists.
Do not replace an existing Claude status-line command or provide credentials to make this reader work. QuotaMew does not scan Claude transcripts, session history, credentials, or internal usage caches. See Privacy.
Other tools
Current Stable does not provide integrations for other coding tools. An unsupported tool cannot be enabled by changing the menu-bar provider selection.
